Skilf is a Brighton based Rap/Dance artist with a unique and distinctive sound. For the past two years he has been bubbling under the surface and turning many a head with his heartfelt lyrics and determination to be heard by all. His conceptual writing style and explosive delivery are what makes Skilf stand out from the crowd: Rhyme schemes galore, punch lines a plenty and a message behind every track.
Skilf started out as a Garage MC at the age of 16, and moved onto drum ‘n’ bass then hip hop. Unfazed by the restrictions of ‘genre’ over the years he has turned his hand to many different styles of music and worked with a number of producers. Through time his vocal style has developed and changed quite dramatically, the early inspiration of Bob Dylan, Sage Francis, Eminem, Wu Tang Clan and The Streets had a big impact on Skilf’s approach to writing, talking about issues and feelings that everyone can relate to.
Since independently releasing his debut album ‘Original Visions’ in 2008, Skilf has received airplay on stations such as 1Xtra, BBC Introducing, BBC Asian Network and Kiss FM as well as featuring on CD Pool’s Street Sounds, the Brighton Hip Hop Festival CD 2007, Rising Styles 2009 and many more. He has also shared stages with the likes of Pendulum, Ghostface Killah (Wu Tang Clan), Tim Westwood, Chipmunk, Taio Cruz, The Futureheads, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, Guru Josh Project and Task Force at events such as The Big Chill, Glade Festival, Beach Breaks, Y-Not and many more.
Skilf recently released his free mixtape ‘Alter Egos’ which has been solidly received and downloaded by thousands already. He is currently halfway through his second album entitled ‘Second Thought’, which will be released towards the end of 2011. He is involved in collaboration projects with the legendary Ashley Beedle, his band Astro-Physics and Karma Police a Leeds based House/Electro outfit. With a consistent drive and unwavering determination, you can be sure that the best is yet to come…
